The term "veteran", from the word "vetus", meaning "old", is used in the United States America to mean people with involvement in the military. The common usage is for a former armed forces personnel. A veteran is one who has served in the armed forces, but usually not a person who had a dishonorable discharge. It is especially applied to those who served for an entire career, but may be applied for people who has only worked 1 tour of duty.
